Hi bagshot,

I will be glad to help you. Unfortunately once the operating system is installed you will not be able to go back to this screen. However, I request you to let me know what changes you want to make to your computer. I will then check and let you know what can be done.

Thank you for your reply Kiran, I hope you can assist me.

I was under the impression that settings made on that screen were made on the understanding that they could be changed later, as is the case with most applications when you gain experience of a particular program . That is common practice in most applications. However, I do appreciate your offer of help.

I chose to do the express settings as I was under time pressure during the reinstallation so here are the features I would like changed and I would like you to "untick" the following

1 Help improve Microsoft software, services and location by sending us information.

2 Use Bing to get suggestions and web results in Windows search and let Microsoft use your location and other information to personalise your experience.

3 In Internet Explorer use page prediction to preload pages which send your browsing history to Microsoft.

4 Let Windows and Apps use your name, account, picture and advertising ID and request your location from the location platform.

Thanks for your help.

Hi bagshot,

Apologies for the delayed response. The best possible solution is to do a reset by using the below link:

http://dell.to/15uEMyj

Once this is done the computer will go back to windows 8 operating system. Then you may do a complete windows update and then go to windows 8.1 and again upgrade the operating system. Now select custom settings.

Note: Please backup data before attempting this.

Thanks Kiran,

I thought I might have to end up doing a reset!

I've only had this pc for a couple of weeks so there's very little I've added or changed to it so a reset will not be too much of an inconvenience.

Thanks for your help.

As a follow up question will the reset procedure require a product key?

Not being very familiar with W8 yet I looked up a couple of other write ups on resetting the OS and there was mention of providing a key. Unlike my previous Dell I wasn't provided with one this time.

I understand that a key is incorporated into the motherboard so will it be picked up automatically?

Thanks

Hi bagshot,

The product key in windows 8 systems is embedded into the system board as you mentioned. If you are using a Dell OEM disc on a Dell system then the product key will not be prompted.
