f8 won't load boot options

I have a d 630 and according to my brother he just shut it down the night before.  It will not boot. The loading screen will come up and I can enter setup. but nothing after that. I have tried to load through a windows cd and it will ask me if i want to load from cd. I will hit a key to start it. but that freezes before anything happens also. I have tried tapping f8 all through the boot but it still freezes with a blank screen.  last I saw it was working just fine. please any ideas.

F8 allows you to boot from Safe Mode.  F12 allows you a selection of boot devices such as a CD Drive or Hard Drive(s).

Do you hear any noises coming from the hard drive?

I have tried that one also (f12) When i try to boot from a windows cd. It gets to checking system hardware config... then it freezes just like all the other things that I have tried. It doesn't even start the set up it's just a black screen.

If my lap top dropped or something of the sort could my ram be a little off and causing this freeze or would it not even get to this point? Should I check to make sure it's  in properly.

Yes I can feel it working. It's a new hard drive also. I just replaced it about a month ago. The previous one had died supositly on it's own says my friend.  The bios recognizes it. When my last drive died the bios said it wasn't present.
