Failed PC Restore for Window XP

I followed the

PC Restore for Window XP support article to a T. After the restore, it showed "The system recovery process was successful.", and I hit Finish  to restart the computer. It started to boot up normal, then it just goes black. Not sure how I could have messed that up, and I don't know what to do. I was giving my sister my old Dimension 2400, and wanted to give her a clean slate.

Guess my sisters not get the new computer soon.

Could you explain exactly what "PC Restore" you used?  I didn't think there was a Dell Recovery Partition on the hard drive that would let you reinstall everything back to the original factory condition.

With a 2400, usually you have to use CD's to completely reinstall.  Basically boot from the Dell Windows XP CD, reformat the hard drive then (1) Install Windows (2) Install Intel chipset drivers (3) Install device drivers including sound, video, etc.  These are on the Dell drivers and utilities CD but if you don't have that they can all be downloaded HERE

DO NOT skip the Intel Chipset Drivers - they are key to a successful install and MUST be installed BEFORE installing device drivers.

Have you added a PCI video card to the computer during the time you have had it?  If so, you need to remove the card and connect your monitor to the on-board video.  The PC Restore will only have the original video driver.  If you wish to include the add-on card you will need to follow the same installation process you used to install it the first time.

Did you mean System Restore?

Try it from "safe mode with command prompt"

Once in safe mode with command prompt, type in the following command and hit enter

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
