okay, I tried to do that but it would not let me. This message came up-
"Error 1722. There is a problem with windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
which unfortunately does not work at the moment because (Dell said) the site is undergoing maintenance. I was told last night to try for a couple of days. So far, nothing.
thanks. At least you got something from them. All they told me to do was a "system restore" which messed up my iTunes library and I spent 3 hours trying to fix that.
I'll keep checking out the site too and let you know if I get anything. Keep me informed!
Not sure how your situation is going. I am still getting the errors and that site is not working yet.
I got an email from a Dell Online Technicall Support named Ningshen Wungreihor who said-
"In this situation it might be best to do a clean install of your operating system. Following these steps will lead to the loss of ALL your data from your hard drive. Backup any important data to other media prior to continuing.
Follow the instructions in this Dell KnowledgeBase article to make the CD-ROM Boot Disk.
Once the disk is made, boot to it and choose to boot the system with CD-ROM Support, most of the drivers will be IDE drives.
You will then get an A:\> prompt, at this you will want to type the command
FORMAT C: /U /C /AUTOTEST
You will then get an A:\> prompt when the process is complete. You can then complete the rest of the steps in the above-mentioned article. Once your operating system is installed you will then need to install any drivers that were not native to the operating system.
(my previous article was about my iTunes library. I have over 1300 songs in it, I don't need to lose all that!!)
So what's the word on your end? Did you return the computer? LOL
I know EXACTLY what you mean. I wrote Dell a nasty letter that initiated these responses from whomever that person that left me an email was.
" am NOT happy with my laptop. I purchased it back in December and I have been having problems with it for the last 3 weeks. I tried calling your support help line, but being that I am hard of hearing- it is VERY hard for me to understand the people on the other end of the line. I have tried to go to the community chat forums but there are a few other people in there having the same problem I am having. So far, NONE of us have been able to get results. Ever since a few weeks ago, I have been getting a Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7927e03e) and the first time I called, I was told to do a system restore. That messed up my iTunes Library and I spent 2 1/2 hours trying to fix that. It did NOT solve the problem however. So when I went to the community forum, I was told to remove the dell support software from my computer. I cannot even do that, it comes up with Error 1722. There is a problem with Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vender. How can it be that a computer not even a month old is having problems like this? I am tired of having to deal with this and I would like something to be done about it ASAP. If you want for me to return this laptop and you can send me a new one, I am willing to do that but this is unacceptable."
I also sent one to the customer service email so we'll see if I get a response from them. I think I might just send this message once a day every day until something is done on their part.
I have spent a frustrating afternoon on the phone with Dell. I had earlier got an email message from Parthasarathi
DT D45689
Dell Technical Support as follows:
"After reviewing your issue, I found that our Advanced support department
will be able to handle this issue. Our Dell Advance Support Specialists
can be reached at:
1-877-575-7437"
I called the number : 1-877-575-7437 for Dell Advanced Technical Support.
While I was waiting, a recording repeatedly told me that the first 21 days after purchase were free, after which the charge would be $29.95.
When I got through, the first techie got rid of me quickly after finding out I was past the 21 days. The next guy had me use the Dell Tools System Software application disk to remove Dell Support. It didn't remove. He sent me back to 1-877-575-7437, and the new techie said I had to talk to a service rep about fees. She told me the fee for Advanced Support was $149.95, and said that the earlier telephone message(s) was an error.
II repeat again: All I want is the to try the download suggested some time ago by Dell telephone support: is there not some simple way you can send me the file <
http://dellsupport.dellfix.com/download/dellsupportsilentinstall.exe> since your website continues to be down? It shouldn't cost $149.95 for Dell's initial faulty installation, when apparently there is a fix.
Maybe this file ISN'T the answer. If so, why doesn't someone say so?
That is SO funny because I just did the same thing last night. I moved ALL my music files onto CDs and then did the PC restore. Now I am slowly putting all my music back onto my iTunes library.
I just hope that this error stuff does not happen again next week or something like that. LOL
The second techie had mentioned something called a PC Restore, which restores the computer to the state it was in when Dell shipped it. (It also means total loss of data, and non-factory-installed programs.) I was skeptical, because I thought my Dell 700 had shipped with a faulty Dell Support file, but in any event, I backed up my data files and those programs I didn't have disks for, and my registration details, and so on (alas, my backup wasn't going well, and the third and last time I didn't include everything).
To make a long story short, I did the PC Restore, which went fairly quickly. The main difference I noticed was that a Java download program loaded first thing (as I recall, on my first go-round it did not show up until later), and after that, Dell Support worked fine.
The PC Restore also fixed a problem I'd been having in Internet Explorer with images (error in iframe html). I'm not sure the two are related.
I figured that Advanced Technical Support was going to tell me to format C:\ or PC Restore anyway, and I didn't want to pay $150 for that.
Best of luck to you with your situation: all those music files...ugh.

Go to Add and Remove Programs and uninstall Dell Support. It does little more than generate error messages so it won't be missed.

Then I click okay. And this message showed up..
"Fatal Error during Installation."

I get this as well, and I got the same error message 1722 when I tried to remove Dell Support.
