FDISK CMD NOT RECOGNISED

Inspiron 1300 W XP service pack 2.
 
I wont to rebuild O/S so i can start a fresh, i have backed up data by making a 2nd partition on HDD and have called it E drive.
When i try to format C from dos it doesnt recognise.
When i run XP disk it blue screens with a stop error....
any other way of formatting the C drive???????

If you keep getting a blue screen you might have a hard drive that is getting bad.....

I have run the diagnostics and HDD passed but it all points to HDD.
Spoke to dell and not much use as they want to charge £60 to talk me through a rebuild.....!!!!!!!
wouldnt buy a dell ever again,

wouldnt buy a dell ever again, simple straight forward job on any other manufactures pc but with a dell nothing seems to be straight forward!!!!!!!
