Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

Question

I am trying to transfer data files and settings from Windows 98SE to new computer with XP Home edition. A Microsoft instructiokn titled Moving files and settings to a new xcomputer running windoes XP  shows that this can be accomplished with windows 98 on the old xcomputer and gives detailed instructions on procedures.   When I load the XP program into the old computer it works as indicated except that it never asks if your on the old computer, therefore when you designate the storage device to record the data e.g. E:/  it will not recognize as valid output device.   Has anyone ever used this to successfully transfer files?   Any suggestions as to easiest way for me to transfer the file and settings and maybe program applications also.   Any help will be appreciated.     The old system a DELL T700xps with W98SE..  The new is DELL 530 Inspiron with windows xp  home edi tion   Thank You

FAST can be problematic . . I find it is easier to transfer the files using a flash drive or CD then transfer the settings one program at a time
