Finally Installed

I have posted several times about the " Worker_Thread_Returned_At_Bad_IRQL " BSOD that I was getting whenever I tried to install the Vista upgrade on my XPS 410 (only two months old).  I was also unsuccessful doing a clean install.  I tried all of the workarounds posted here (disabling RAID, disconnecting the 2nd HD, etc), and all I got for my trouble was the loss of my restore partition, as well as losing a lot of time restoring XP, etc.  An online chat with a Dell tech almost got it done (another clean install), but it went BSOD at the very end (no idea what it was - just saw something about a driver before it went to reboot).  The result of that was continuous reboots that I could only stop by shutting the system down and clean installing XP.  Once again spent several hours getting everything back to the way it used to be - this time swearing that I was done with Vista :smileymad:.  That was last week, and ever since I've been checking the boards to see if anyone else was still having this issue, or if Dell would post a fix.  Last night (I don't know why), I threw the upgrade assistant in, let it remove my ATI drivers, etc, and tried the upgrade again (no more clean installs, my life isn't that long).  I left to run some errands and came back an hour later - it had installed:smileyvery-happy: (!?).  I have no idea why it worked - can only guess that there are some new updates out there picked up by the upgrade assistant or the Vista install program.  It seems to be running fine - just needed to update some drivers and programs - hope to finish that after work today.

So, you other folks that were posting with the same issue - maybe you need to try again....:smileywink:

I had the same weird problem I tried doing an upgrade around 5 times but as soon as it got to around 10% on the first step it stopped the installation and got an error message that the disc was corrupt and to make sure there was files on the disc. I tried again the next day and it went through and took around 1hr and half to complete. Seems kinda weird that one minute it doesent go through then the next it goes through.
