finding backup utility

Question

I have oem Windows XP Home Edition system , which doesn't load a system backup utility. I'm supposed to load NTbackup from XP disc - All I have is Dell's reinstall disk.  Where do I find this backup utility?

The backup will be on the Windows XP CD. However, the Windows XP backup utility will only backup to diskettes. It won't backup to a CD. If you want to backup to CD(s) you will need to buy a 3rd party program that will do what you want.

Another thing to consider. You have the restore CD's that Dell provided. It has all the pre-loaded software, drivers, etc. All you really need to backup is your user data (e.g. WordProcessor files, e-mail Account, address book, etc). You don't need any backup software for that. Just use the CD burning software that comes with your PC and create a "data" CD-R with the user data on it.

something else I would add about backup up to it is alot cheaper to buy another hardrive and use it to back up than keep backing up to disk.  If you use cdrws to back up to they are not that dependable and it you use cdrs then you have to replace them each time.  I have a 200 g hardrive and a 80 g hardrive that I use to back up things I do not want to loose

You can back up to a folder on your hard drive then burn it to a CD.
