Don't know if this helps or not, but this was one of the few things I did *NOT* have trouble with! Exported the file to a floppy from bookmark manager on the Fox on the old computer. Put the floppy in the new computer. Did "file" then "import" then "from file" from within the bookmark manager on the Fox on the new computer. Voila - bookmarks. Should be easily adaptable by those less dependent than I was on floppies with my very old computer! Now - I would sure love to know how to get my address book and email out of my Thunderbird on my old computer (on Win98) to my Thunderbird on my new computer(on XP). Nothing I could find on the Thunderbird "help" stuff helped. Sigh.

I use this extension Pike's Mozilla Firefox Extensions - Bookmark Backup at http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/#bb
It will make a copy of your bookmark's and other stuff under your My computer folder.
