Firewire support in Safe Mode?

Is there any way to enable firewire support for an external HDD while in Safe Mode?  My computer won't run more than a few minutes if booted normally and I need to find a way to back up a large number of photos and files before doing a complete reinstall of XP SP2.  I'm looking at the prospect of burning roughly 50-60 CD-R's in Safe Mode if I can't come up with another way to move these files.

As an alternative, I have an old 60 GB IDE HDD from my old Dimension 4550 with XP installed on it.  Can I install that in an open bay on my XPS 600 and delete/reformat it from within Safe Mode?  My current configuration is a Raid1 with 2 250GB SATA drives.

You might try this method. Hopefully it will stay booted long enough to make the changes.

If this does not work, mount the hard drive in another PC as a secondary drive, then copy files you need.

You might also try a boot disk such as slax or bartpe, if you can get to another computer to burn them. Both are free downloads and should work for you.

Great, thanks.  My old Inspiron 8600 is still chugging along (slowly) so I should be able to download/burn those files to try.
