fixing internet explorer

Question

hi there, then when i went to windows update and clicked on scan my computer , explorer would shut down after two errors. errors were lexplore has caused anerror in MSHTML.DLL and explorer caused error in user exec. i could go to other sites and click away with no problems. so i thought to fix interner explorer. i went to add\remove programs\and tried two of the 3 options and of course none of them worked.one error was  about the MSHTML.DLL. I got that file off the internet and extracted it to windows\system (thats where it is suppose to be. but putting that file back fixed 1 of the errors at windows update and 1 error trying to repair internet explorer. 2 down and 2 to go. went to ms about internet explorer shuts downs on certain web sites. the fix was to install internet explorer 5.5, but i cant get it at windows update but i found it at some freeware site ( i mean i found ie6setup.exe which offer me 256 search engine bar, i said no). connected to internet 2click ie6setup.exe, i download & everthing now runs perfectly. i hope. thanks , brian

i did not mean anything bad. i was referring to say perhaps installing netzero as an isp.  a person should know anytime you install something that is free  or cheap, etc., you had better know that program is going to stick things in your computer without asking. for instance the netzero install program puts directx 6 or so on my computer while i already have directx 9. brian

Hey now, I had to respond to this one! BB, I understand about your thinking on the free stuff, but FIREFOX is way safer than IE, I also use 'SPY-BOT Search & Destroy', these might be 'free' if you don't donate to their cause but they leave that honor to you to decide it's value to you the user. I have learned to have a 'spare' PC setup to try out apps & utilities till I find out if they are safe & stable. Oh well good luck and have fun out here in cyber-land
