What is the name of the folder in "Documents and Settings" which opens up?

It's my name. We'll just call it "John Doe."

It is at C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe, It isn't "My Documents." If I were to get to it from My computer it would be C:>Document and Settings>"John Doe"(This folder is the one that keeps opening) Can it be a virus that my anti-virus software can't detect? (the definitions are all up to date.) If you have AIM then you can IM me at Only THC for me. I figure that would be a lot easier. Also thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Is it "My Documents"

Check this out

Go to Start>Run>Regedit.exe, then in the Registry Editor find this key:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look for Userinit, it's value should be:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,  ( NOTE the comma at the end)

assuming that Windows is installed on the C:\ drive. If it reads anything else change it to that value.

If you are going to change a key, export it first as a safeguard

Sorry, I don`t have AIM.

I have never seen that particular folder opening at boot up.
It could be a virus/trojan/spyware.

Have a look in msconfig for anything which should not be running.
Start/Run/ msconfig
Startup

Keep the page open then go to link below.

http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.html

Read the Key at foot of page, then click on "Here" at top. Use the Search box to check all your entries

If you find any nasties or adware, take a note of the name

Also
If you run the following you will get a wide ranging check

Download and run
Microsoft Windows Antispyware
