SidBord,

The problem of fonts being loaded into memory is a concern in the Windows 9X family of operating systems. A listing of "resource hogs" for those OSs includes the following, Applications that have the ability to "preview fonts in font list" such as Office 2000, which load all installed fonts into GDI resources when the application is launched (requires 1% of GDI resources per 64 fonts).

Your fonts probably utilize no more than 40MB of RAM and if you are running Windows XP that probably does not have a major impact on your system's performance. If you wish to delete some fonts, however, the only impact it is likely to have is that any Web site which uses an "odd" font may not display properly on your computer. Considerate Web designers bear this in mind, however, and will specify more common alternative fonts when using an alternative typeface.
