FORMAT C:/Drive so as to remove Dell "stuff."

Hi everyone,

Im looking to format my C: Drive on my Inspiron 1150 Laptop so that I can remove all Dell's Spyware and other systems that bog down my computer.

Basically this person was discribing how Dell loads your computer full of non-essencial crud and that this significantly reduces system performance.  However, just as I was getting ready to perform this gigantic feet of computer prowess, Dell deleted/restricted access to the post! (this really got me thinking that this might be a good thing).

So, I know that I can not use Dell's XPCD or other Dell cds for this b/c this will just reinstall the same crud. What I did do is buy a Full Version of Windows XP Pro for this task :)

Im thinking I need to Format the C: Drive but when I went into "My Computer," of course it would not let me format the drive.  I then went into the set-up screen (F2 @ boot), but I could not find the drive or the command?  Im missing something.... please help.

Any advise is most appreciated :)  Thanks

kool,

You do use the XP CD for a reinstallation.  To get rid of the extra stuff, you have to boot to the XP CD.  The CD will guide you through the process where you will delete the C: partition and then format it.  You do not do this from within windows.!

See this for explicit pictorial instructions.    http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp

Before you start anything, back up any files that you want to keep to CD.  You should remove any external devices from your laptop, except themouse.

Service Pack 2 is the first thing to be reinstalled, unless you have a firewall which you can install instead.  Then, the chipset and the notebook drivers.

Good luck,

Jane.
