frequent total slowdown
Hello everyone,
maybe one of you can drop me a hint.
My Inspiron 8200 often (most of the time, actually) slows down to an intolerable degree. Task Manager shows that the processor is up to 100% busy (if that's the case, then with only very few breaks) although just one or two programs may be running. Sometimes the computer is quick and alert right after start and suddenly the fan switches on, TaskManager shows increased activity and everything slows down - although no process seems to be added.
Iv'e scanned with NAV and with AVG for viruses, running AdAware, hijacking everything suspicious, installing the OS and some basic programs on a new partition - no significant change. Sometimes everything is all right, most of the time it is painfully slow.
Does anyone know a software which can trace what is actually going on in which moment? TaskManager shows reliably the moment when this strange resource-devouring activity starts, but that's about it. No idea what it could be. It seems to be increased when I run programs that exchange data with the Internet, but not for sure. I could just be scanning or viewing and renaming files with the Explorer. It seems to be moreoften all right immediately after activities like re-sizing a partition, defragmenting the harddisc, waking up from hybernation.
Thanks a lot in advance,
Marcel

If you have already used spybot you could start at the hijackthis point below
----------------------------------
Use these to remove Malware (Spyware and Adware).
Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware
Cwshredder
With all of these download them, install (after unzip if required), download the latest signature/update file, run, delete all that they find.
Failing those solving your problems a post of a hijackthis log for the experts to advise.
HijackThis From Here
Download, run, scan, save log, then in notepad copy the FULL log by copy and paste to a post in one of these specialist spyware removal forums:-
http://tomcoyote.org/forums/index.php
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php
http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi
http://boards.cexx.org/index.php
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING WITH HIJACKTHIS WITHOUT EXPERT ADVICE, most of what it finds you need for normal MS Windows tasks.
Do read the sites FAQ before posting, and advise your problem and what steps you have already done to try to cure your problem.
I am in all those sites as ChrisRLG. You might get me, but any of the more problematic ones are handled by the experts. If you get a 'advanced member' like me, we have other ways of asking for advice from the experts, to pass on to you.
You could post your log here in this thread (if in the Virus Information and Removal Board - if not post in that board not in this thread), and I will have a go at giving advice, but if you go to one of the more specalist forums more experts will be able to help.

Tomcoyotes site is being moved at the moment, so post at spywareinfo or here.
