Getting Mcafee off my computer
I recently installed Mcafee on my computer, and now have lost all of my shortcuts to the web, Itunes, etc. I tried to go to my control panels (add or remove programs), and cannot even access that any longer. So, now I need to find another way to get Mcafee off my computer.
Thanks,

First, this is a software issue, not a Hardware issue (this section).
However, start Windows in Safe Mode. Press F8 BEFOR Windows starts and you will get a menu with several options. One will be Safe Mode (no networking). Select this and then you should be able to use the remove programs or if that doesn'lt work, System Restore may get you back to where you were before you installed McAfee. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.
I have McAfee Total Internet Protection 2009 and did not have any problems after installation. There were several programs that I had to "authorize" to access the Internet, but that was the only problem. If you are installing it on a PC that has several different people Logging on, the program needs to be installed as the "Administrator" and then set to allow the program for all users.

I was able to get in in the safe mode, but was still not able to access the add/remove programs in order to delete Mcafee. Any other suggestions? Mcafee wants $79 to get a tech to try resolve the problem, whereas, I would rather take it entirely off, and re-add. Thanks.

It sounds like your windows got corrupted. I think you might be stuck using your windows disk and trying to repair. It should be a simple un-install. Not everything your having to go though.

Did you try the System Restore function that I noted? That will restore your PC to a previous time. If it doesn't fix the problem, the Windows Repair function is the next step. To run Repair, you boot from your Windows disc but instread of installing you select the Repair option (for Windows XP).
