This is the very first time that the windows update website has not worked for me. I went through the steps.
1)Remove invalid characters from the proxy exception list and then clear the proxy cache
Under LAN settings, it's set to auto detect LAN settings. The advanced button is grayed out and unavailable. If I turn the proxy server on, the advanced button becomes available, however the list is blank to began with.
2) Next clear your proxy cache
I did this, no luck, still can not get windows updates
3) Reconfigure or update your firewall program
When I go to the windows update website, I don't get any firewall prompts. I did turn my firewall off, but I still couldn't get windows updates so my firewall may not be the cause. I've posted on the support forum about how to add the mentioned urls to the exception list since I don't know how to do that. I use Comodo firewall
I haven't done anything else. Under other suggestions, does the background intelligent transfer agent, auto updates, and cryptographic services have to be set to auto? because I have some of them set to mannual at this time.
What I did is I opened up internet explorer, I went to tools, internet options, then I went to the connections tab, I went to LAN settings. For automatically detect settings, I unchecked the box and then rechecked the box, and then I clicked on Ok twice.
Something might still be going on with the website, I did the above mentioned. My error comes back to haunt me and then I do the above and everything is cool.

A bit of an update, at this point, I can not get windows updates, meaning that I get the error message on the website. If I do the LAN settings, that does not appear to solve the problem so something is preventing me from seeing windows updates.

If you could, 2350, can you post what it was you changed to fix the problem? Having more detail may help others that run into the same thing.
Thank you,

Just a hunch. Try this.
Validate your version of Windows again from here.
Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
Attempt to run Windows Update
