Thanks for sharing your experience. It took me forever to download and install SP2 over a DSL line, then my system locked-up. After rebooting, I found that I couldn't print and that Windows Explorer could not find my directories. I'm in the process of searching for solutions, but it looks like the best route is to uninstall.
I would uninstall the update, clean things up a little and then reinstall. You mentioned not being able to print. That was another issue I had that I didn't mention in my original post. I have two printers hooked up but when I opened my printers and faxes folder, it was empty.
While researching my issues, I found a driver patch for my printer (Canon Multifunction) that promises to fix that problem, and may address my other problems. Think I'll try that as a first step, then uninstall if necessary. Would be great if MS and Dell were to publish a list of required, updated drivers.
Installing Canon's patch seems to have corrected all problems. The patch site lists the following as the probable cause for the problem: IP address that has been set up to enable communication between MPService's processes has a problem when run on Windows XP XP2.
Canon have fixes for their USB printer problems with SP2. Apparently they had hijacked the (reserved) second localhost address (127.0.0.2) for their USB drivers to fake a real printer port with. SP2 expected the local computer to be at that address and quite rightly pushed the printer off it into nowhereland.
