Hangs up longer in a blinking cursor in startup

Hi,

Just suddenly this weekend, my computer hangs up for too long in a blinking cursor on the top left corner during startup almost a minute (I time it) but it still takes me to the XP desktop. It was not like this before. After rebooting and startup, the system seems normal. It's only the startup portion that I am having problem. I tired unchecking most of the apps in the MSCONFIG and remove programs that I don't need, run antivirus and defragmenter , did run spybot too but still the same situation. I don't know anything else what to do. Is it posible there is virus or something? Any suggestion please.

Which model computer do you have? If it is a desktop model, what do the 4 diagnostic lights on the back of the computer tower show? Have your disconnected all USB devices, except mouse and keyboard, to see if one of these devices might be causing a problem?

It's an older Dimension XPS 1.4 GHZ. I unplug all the USB devices and still no luck. I don't see any diagnostic lights on the back of the computer.

It's originally an XPS R400 but I upgraded it to a Powerleap Celeron 1.4 ghz. I have XP Pro with service pack 2.
