hardware wizard repair

I am having a problem with the New Harware install wizard. When I try and install new hardware or update a driver I get a software not found message. I checked each driver and in device manager under properties, each is working correctly. I attached a usb card reader to my USB port and checked device driver. It indicates the device is not configured correctly code 1. I checked the box to update the driver and the Hardware wizard indicates it can not find the necessary hardware.

If I try and update any of my drivers, the same message appears from the hardware wizard. If I try and attach anything to my computer that is not currently being used, the new hardware wizard comes up and the same messages appear.

To update a driver, you must have the required driver, sometimes you can tell the wizard to go out to the internet to look for the correct driver, which usually fails to find one most times, if you are installing New hardware it should come with a driver disc.

To update a driver, again you have to have the updated driver on a disc or on the hard drive

If you would explain exactly what you are trying to do, we can be of further assistance.

Drivers usually do not need to be updated unless you are having specific problems with one.

It is like the Hardware wizard can't find the driver software. I am running a Dimensions 4550S with XP.
