Having trouble with Windows XP

Question

Well basically it is bringing me to a black screen, befor I see the windows xp logo right before I start the computer, and It says something about 'Error Loading Operating System' can anyone help me?

Can you boot into Safe Mode?  F8 or F12 at startup.

I think I might be having the same problem on my Inspiron 5150 notebook.  The screen turns black when I try to run windows normally with faint type that you can barely see.  In Safe mode the screen is blue with the same type that says cannot load the hive:  \SystemRoot\System32\Config\Software          I talked to a Dell rep. but I guess my warranty only covers hardware but I don't know if the problem is worth a hundred dollars to fix.  Someone please let me know if there is a solution that I can do myself.

Hi,

In case your comp is still under hardware warranty, you can take a backup of your data and do a system restore.

Power the computer on.
When the Dell screen appears press and hold the key on the keyboard, press the key, then release them both at the same time.
The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.

If you need assistance from a dell rep, you can call them on 1800-624-9896 and ask to reset the comp to "FACTORY DEFAULTS", coz it is covered under hardware warranty. :smileyhappy:
