Try starting IE with no add-ons: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools and then select Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). You may be able to remove the add-on from there.
Rebel, thanks for the suggestion which I tried, but it is still greyed out and will not allow me to delete. Also tried disabling it and the deleting but same result. Any other thoughts??
Solved the problem with the help of a little free program called XCavate by Cognitronix which provides you with a list of all ActiveX add-ons. When I found the offending add-on, XCavate allowed me to delete it (something which as I stated above, IE would not allow me to do as it was greyed out). I was then able to re-install the add-on and it worked fine.

Have a look at this article - in particular the section titled "Can I delete Add-ons or ActiveX controls?"
