Read through this Norton 2001
manual removal document carefully. Ignore the top heading which says "Norton 2002". The document is titled "How to uninstall Norton SystemWorks 2000 or 2001 manually from Windows 95/98/Me." If the directions are not completely relevant, than you will need to go to Symantec's search engine and insert specific language similar to the "How to uninstall Norton
xxxxx from
xxx" which is relevant to your own situation.
Thanks xley. All help appreciated. I've looked at Symantec's knowledge base info but will look again. Maybe I've just overlooked something. Any additional guidance will be appreciated.
I followed the manual uninstall instructions now nothing working as it should. Nero, Spybot, Ad-Aware in program files but won't work. Any ideas where to go from here?
Sorry, I meant to give os. Nero still not working but Spybot and Adaware can scan just cannot connect to their websites. We're getting DNS error screen if we try to connect internet explorer. We can't send or receive mail in Outlook. Gives error message pop3.norton not found.
I uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2001 using ADD/REMOVE from the control panel. Not all files removed so tried the RNAV2003 tool. Still didn't remove all files so I used the instructions for Manual removal of Norton 2001 on Symantec website. Followed each step deleting files and changes in registry just as the instructions said. We still have some Norton items showing up in MSCONFIG Startup even though I've followed Symantec instructions. I'm at a real loss as to what step to take next but am leaning toward throwing in the towel and calling in a computer repair person. Any ideas for correcting the problem will be appreciated. Thanks.
Below are the manual uninstall instructions I used.
The Norton items on the Startup tab are of no consequence. Those items will not be removed if they are unchecked when the program they are associated with is uninstalled. (You can remove them in the registry by deleting their entries from the registry keys listed in
this post.
Are you presently running an antivirus program and if so, have you done a full system scan? It would be useful to do an online virus scan if you can get online at all (I'm not clear on whether all sites are blocked or just certain ones). The failure of programs to operate is a symptom of viral infection.
To attempt to correct your connection problem try repairing Internet Explorer. Go to Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs, select Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools then select the repair option from the context menu that appears. For the email problem open Outlook and go to Tools|E-mail Accounts|View or change existing email account and on the next screen select your account then click "Change." Make sure the entries there for incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) servers are correct and agree with the settings provided by your ISP.
If none of this works to resolve the problem, you might consider reinstalling ME. Back up your perishable data to CD, format the comptuer by booting with an emergency boot diskette and at the DOS prompt entering
format c: and clicking , then reinstalling ME using the instructions
here.
My apologies for seeming to ignore posts. They are appreciated. I had a death in my family. I think everything is removed from the registry but I am still getting this error message when trying to connect Outlook Express: "
The host 'pop3.norton.antivirus' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail.naxs.net', Server: 'pop3.norton.antivirus', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D" What else should I try?
Thanks for instructions. I think we're running now. We can receive and send email. When norton showed up again, it changed the email server information. Once that was changed back everything seems to be operational.

See the link below for instructions on obtaining the RNav2003 utility, which should help you get Nav2001 off of there.

What OS? Which Norton instructions? Please be extremely specific about what you have done, and what error messages you now receive.
