Now for the Windows plug. XP is incredibly fast and stable. One of my XP boxes has been on for over a year without a hitch so let's don't go blaming XP.
First of all, why are you re-installing XP? What lead you to that decision? You could have some spyware or improper drivers casuing you problems.
Please, some detail.

When I switch on my PC and push the start-button there's no(!) response: the system freezes for about 30 seconds- 1 minute!!! After this period the hard-drive is responding.
When I'm working with a program it suddenly freezes or quit with a message "no resource was found" (or something like that). It's weird and it's making me crazy.
It all started with a virusinfection a few days ago (netsky B-virus). Norton has eliminated the virus but it must have damaged some files and programs.
Enough reasons to reinstall XP. But till now I've spent hours and a night trying to reboot from CD / BIOS with no results. What's happening?

Again, I ask. Are your bios set to boot from CD before booting from hard drive? Not sure what you mean by "CD/BIOS"

Well as you can't install A04 at moment you could try booting from Drivers & Utilities (Resource) CD to auto run DELL Diagnostics.
If run checks OK you could then try deleting the XP partition from boot Resource CD above.
Allow Diagnostics to load then end by clicking X
Should then give a DOS Command Prompt >
type FDISK & press "Enter" key
then from displayed menu delete XP partition usually C:

I've already found the solution after calling the technical support.
I'm working on a Dimension 8300 Combo-drive.
It's only possible to reboot from CD-rom using the DVD-driver! It was not mentioned in the manual or dell's website.
In the first session I've tried several times to reboot from CD-Rom by CD-drive; it didn't work. So I rebooted it again from HD, that works but it wrotes over the old installation. The results was that the problems became bigger and bigger. I've checked the manual and websites.... I couldn't find the right solutions.
Finally at last I called my technical desk and he suggested to do a reboot from the DVD-drive and that works with formatting, etc.
I've installed the Dell's -resource drivers and utilty disk. After Installing the 2 Intel Chipset drivers and Nvdia GFX 5200 and the rest of the CD-roms it works again on internet, etc.
So the manuals have to be updated!!!
