help! disk clean up does not work...
This is a new comp. Dell Dimension 2400 Feb. 2004. It was running smoothly and sufficiently and I was able to run disk clean up about once a week, til about a month ago after I installed a new GeForce 4 MX440 video card. Now when I try to run disk clean-up the window just stays on the desktop . I know it says "this may take a few minutes" but after 30mins. I close it, because it goes NO where! I only use this comp. for fun and a few word docs. I surf the net quite often, and I do like to keep it clean of temp. internet files. Also my screen saver (the one installed on the comp.) any of them, freezes and goes NO where. What the heck happened. Also I cannot do system restore, when I try to go back to before I installed the card, and even a few days ago, it says I cannot restore, no changes have been made.
Any suggestions as to my dilemma?
Thanks!

If Disk Cleanup freezes with two or three green dots in the progress bar, download and run the little file here and it should correct the problem.
For System Restore, disable system restore (go to Start|Control Panel|System|System Restore tab) and reboot. Go back and enable Restore again. Create a manual restore point then see if you can restore to it. The problem you describe is usually due to a corrupted restore database and the process above will clear it.

Denny,
Thanks so very much. You are a genius. The disk clean up works like a charm. You were correct.
My next is to do the system restore.

Karen
P.S. I did call Dell Tech support with the same problem as posted above and they wanted me to uninstall my operating system and reinstall it. As I am not a computer whiz, I did not want to mess with technical stuff so I opted for your solution. Again, thanks
