HELP! Hard disk drive not found

I was on the internet yesterday, just chatting and trying to download a plan of the official public transport company of my city when suddenly my computer froze. The colours of the website were still there, but nothing else. I couldn't do anything anymore, tried to get to the task manager or hit Esc etc, but nothing. It's a laptop, so I ended up trying to shut it off, but not even that worked. I kept hitting the Power Button and eventually it shut off, but with a strange noise.
When I tried to restart, there was this black screen with the message "Hard disk drive 0 not found".
Can anybody tell me, whether there is a chance that this can be fixed? Or is everything broken and lost now? Oh my gosh, I really don't know what to do!

When you suddenly power off the system , there are chances of your hard drive to be crashed Hope its not crashed ...

Lets try to solve it rather than thinking its crashed .... the first thing that you can do is that you can enter the system set and check HDD is detected or not - try reseting the defaults in BIOS setting ...To Enter setup HIT F2 key at the Dell Logo ...
Or Hit F12 Key at Dell Logo there will be an option Called IDE Hard Drive diagnostis and Check what is the result you get ??? by doing diagnostics some time your hard drive will get detected ...

If you Can tell which laptop you are using so i can guide u through it !!!
