Help in reinstalling XP - 0x00000050 problem

Question

My system is the 8300, 1G RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Hardware/software configuration exactly the same as bought just over a year ago.   From about 1 month ago I was failing to start the PC about 80% of the time, getting the 'Your computer has recovered from a serious problem tell Microsoft' message when Desktop finally loaded. Error messages on failure were either:- 'File missing or corrupt \windows\system32\config\system or: 'Page_Fault_in_nonpaged_area 0x00000050 (0xC1081FDA, 0x00000000, 0x8057D057, 0x00000000) Ran repair - no improvement. Ran diagnostics, all passed OK. Swamped RAM modules over, and then tried seperately. Still a problem. Checked all boards were seated correctly. Discussed with Dell phone support, who advised a reinstall of XP.   On reinstalling XP, after about 4 to 8 minutes (tried many times!), crash with either of the 2 error messages as above. If there is no crash, then system seems to lock trying to load XP, usually on the driver loading section, but not always, sometimes I have got up to the network options screen.   If on retrying the install and not pressing F12, i.e booting from whatever has been put on HDD, get the following messages repeated ' Insufficient system resources to implement the api' and 'A write operation was attempted to volume after it was dismounted'.   Got back to phone help line, ran diagnostics off CD, ran chkdsk etc. All tests passed. Was advised to buy another HDD. This was done. Now the proud owner of 320GB! Same problems as identified above with the brand new HDD, so that was obviously not the culprit. Any suggestions on what to do or test next? Maybe it is the videoRAM? But all diagnostic tests are a pass. Have read the Microsoft Bulletins on 0x00000050.  Any suggestions appreciated!   Jim

You need to do a complete reformatting and install. A repair will not fix the problem.

Thank you for the comments.

I should have been more explicit. When installing the new HDD, I did a complete format, and install of XP.

Still got the BSOD 0x50 halfway through the install.

The HDD is recognised OK and passed all the tests on the Resource CD 32bit diagnostic test.

if you are still having this issue and you have already talked to phone support for that length of time. I think its time for you to call customer care. Its sad to say this but you might have a lemon:(
