You need to do a complete reformatting and install. A repair will not fix the problem.

Thank you for the comments.

I should have been more explicit. When installing the new HDD, I did a complete format, and install of XP.
Still got the BSOD 0x50 halfway through the install.
The HDD is recognised OK and passed all the tests on the Resource CD 32bit diagnostic test.

if you are still having this issue and you have already talked to phone support for that length of time. I think its time for you to call customer care. Its sad to say this but you might have a lemon:(
