Thanks i tried that and it didn't work. I've tried to delete all traces of the previous software from the registry, Program Files etc. but i can still see the programs in the Add/Remove Programs window. However when i try to remove it on one it says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable", another is "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed".
I can install other software but just not the one i want. I redownloaded it again to try. I think there is something left in the registry somewhere that needs to be deleted but i've gone to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software to delete the previous file. Is there somewhere else that needs to be checked for left over files?
I don't see the Blackberry Desktop Software in the Windows Installer Utility but i still see it in the Add or Remove Programs window. Whenever i try to Change/Remove it, it says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed"
The program is not installed so don't bother trying to uninstall it. You can regedit out the listing of the program in Add/Remove but that's not our main problem. You can do it before you attempt the measures to get this installed. Don't be concerned that you're using bis and the directions for the regedit were for the server edition. Try to run through the link I already gave you replacing BIS for BES where applicable.
Here are some possible causes for the installation error. Like I said, don't worry about the program difference; this is a Windows error (ie generic).
PS You could take another way out by doing a System Restore to a day previous to the install. From there I would run the"sfc /scannow" command, then update your installshield engine and possibly the Windows Installer (to 3.1) if you don't already have it installed. Then retry the install. I think you will have more success with the regedit way.
Yeah i went through all that and still no joy. When i was deleting files out of the registry there were a few Research In Motion files that i couldn't delete under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CONTROLSET003/ENUM/USB/VID.... files.
Can't do the System Restore since all points were deleted doing some troubleshooting.
c:\, c:\windows and c:\documents and settings\'username'\local settings\
4.(Go offline and) Using "msconfig" command disable ALL startups and XP firewall if applicable and reboot. Try the install.
5. If still nothing, Run the command: sfc /scannow
6. See if you can install the .exe/.msi file by right-clicking it and selecting the "Run as" option...Administrator; I don't think you can do that with any msi installations however.
7. Run a Repair Install.
8. Run Registry Manager (aka RegCleaner) (not without possible side effects) from Downloads/ PowerTools "Download Product" with Handbook.
Some things you could try:
1. Check the Device Manager to see if there's a BB reference that you can uninstall.

9. Delete those ControlSet RIM keys you mentioned; right-click on them/Permissions/Hi-lite "Everyone" and give them Full Control; this is potentially dangerous-even if you export the key (for safety) it may not want to merge back.

First get your System Restore working again (ie disable/reboot/re-enable). Disconnect BB from computer.
Some things you could try:
1. Check the Device Manager to see if there's a BB reference that you can uninstall.
2. Run these 2 commands (from Start|Run):
msiexec.exe /unregister (note space)
msiexec.exe /regserver
3. Clear the 3 temp folders in:
c:\, c:\windows and c:\documents and settings\'username'\local settings\
4.(Go offline and) Using "msconfig" command disable ALL startups and XP firewall if applicable and reboot. Try the install.
5. If still nothing, Run the command: sfc /scannow

So you know, I'm getting way way over my head. That said, I would say the best folder would be(if it matters):
c:\documents and settings\'user name'\local settings\temp
I would go there and clean it out (via Select All/Delete) before you run the install.
I'll say again this is unknown territory for me.
