I am runnng Ad-a-ware 6.0 and it is up to date and I've done the disk cleanup, cleared all the cookies and temporary internet files, defragged the computer, etc. I checked msconfig, but I'm not really sure what I am looking for in there. I'm afraid to change any of the settings. Thanks for your help.
Have you tried checking for spyware? That will tend to make your system run slower depending on what has been loaded. I use Spybot Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware. Both seem to work great........that might be something to try.
If you want to trouble shoot . . you can turn off everything in the startup tab and then check one at a time to see which is the culprit . . you can always re-enable . . they will stay there after you uncheck them.
You might run SpyBot also . . it looks for slightly different problems and complements AdAware.

Round up the usual suspects:
Run msconfig and stop any unneeded programs from running at startup
Run Disc cleanup and delete all files it will delete
Update AntiVirus and run a full virus scan
Run AdAware and SpyBot to check for spyware messin' with ya
Run Defrag
See where this all gets ya . . wrs
