Help Please!

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 9150.

Last night I tried to install a little proggie named WavMan.  During installation, it asked me if I wanted to overwrite the systems newer drivers with it's older drivers.  Of course I indicated I did not want it to do that, but it ignored me and did it anyway.

Just as soon as it got through installing, I get a windows error that tells me because some of it's components have be overwritten...the system might become unstable and request me to insert my
XP 2 disk.  Welllll.....I don't have an XP 2 disk.

I called customer service and got 'Leroy'.  Leroy first said I did NOT get an error:smileysurprised: ...then after I insisted I did, Leroy said he could not help me obtain a disk because I had tried to install a program onto the computer and told me I should not do that.  I inquired as to why would anyone buy a computer if they couldn't install programs on it and asked him was he telling me not to install any programs onto the computer...he applied in the affirmative:smileymad::smileymad::smileymad:

So Please...Please..anyone...can you tell me who to contact to getI can get an XP 2 disk from Dell.  They used to ship it with the computer, but they didn't this timeI sure would love to have one the next time (if there is a next time) the computer wants to be fed.  Any help would be most appreciated...Joyce:womanvery-happy:

Liza513,

Request and XP reinstallation CD from one of the links in this post.

(It is prudent to create a manual restore point before installing new software in case something like you experienced happens. It offers a graceful solution.)

To follow up on what Denny said, and while you wait for the XP CD, do a System Restore using the most recent date available before you installed that errant software.

start>help&support
click "undo changes..."
follow the prompts and pick the latest Restore date before you did the new install.

I am trying the email option.  But from looking at the thread of the other posters there...I don't know if I will get the disks I need.  Thank you for the advice...both of you...I did do a restore which fixed the problem, however.  I want a disk for the 'next' time this might happen.  It is a bummer to have a brand new computer and no back up disks....Dell, I thought, was more customer oriented than this...I thought....Thanks...Joyce

Dell's media reduction policy is not to send any CDs. For new systems, there's a $10 option to purchase the disks when your order the system. Otherwise, you have to find a friendly tech support person willing to send them.

Try to get all the CDs for your system including XP, Resources (drivers and utilities), software (eg, Sonic, MyDVD etc), modem (if you have one), MS Office (if you purchased it)...

I don't really understand why you can't order them at anytime...before or after...cost is the same. I would have never in my wildest dreams thought a brand new computer would be shipped without them and never had to order them in the past soooooo...I wasn't even looking for that option.  I apparently missed it and would have definitely gotten them had I known it was an option...sighhhhh...hopefully I will find one of those 'friendly' technichians.  Thanks so much, Ron...Joyce:smileyhappy:
