Help requested on a Java error , please.

I can't seem to figure out what is going on with Java Script on my Inspiron 8200 laptop.
When I try to check my mail at msn, I get this error message: JavaScript required to sign in.

When I try to view moving doppler radar on weather.com it says about the same thing:
We have detected your browser has JavaScript and/or Cookies disabled.

I use IE 6.0, Internet Options, and have it set up as follows:
-- In Advanced: I have (Sun) JRE 1.5.0_02 for enabled.
-- In Security I have all the Scripting enabled, and level set to custom (medium) and once I view custom levels I'm utterly Clue -Less

I rarely surf the Java stuff on various 'puter forums: it's over my head.
Does Micro$oft not support VM any longer?, and: do I need Sun's Java installed on my machine?

Windows XP Prof. with SP-2, on a docked Dell Inspiron 8200.
Windows updated regularly: but it's possible this is a low priority download, so I might have missed what's going on in the world of Java: except that I drink too much of her.
Hope I have provided enough information.
Any advice/suggestions (as usual) very much appreciated!
Steve

I installed jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p-iftw from Sun on 5/25/05 trying to fix this.
And: in IE >Tools> it shows Sun Java Console -- is checked in > advanced.

In IE > Tools > Programs > Manage Add-ons it's enabled.

I don't get it? (obviously)

Yes, MS does not support Java anymore, so install it from Sun.

First, Java and JavaScript are two very different things.  Try looking at this web site to enable JavaScript.
