help - selective startup
thank you for reading my message:
2 days ago I restarted my dell (dimension xp2 t650r) and when it started itit did with funny colours and big fonts (like safe mode) checked under "msconfig" and showed "selective startup" I click on "normal startup" but keeps on going back to selective....I at the same time I see a error message at start up "memory manager not detected"....thank you for you time and advise.....Paulo

For the Memory Manager not Detected message, edit your config.sys file as indicated here.
For the Startup problem, see if this applies.
Neither of these should modify your display. From what you describe, you may need to install the driver for your graphics adapter, as Windows may be using the default VGA driver.

thanks for your help...1st solution took care of the error message "memory manager not detected" but the 2nd did not help, my system still starting under selective startup with the funny colours and huge fonts, any other solution would be much appreciated...

furthermore Dr. Watson is telling me that "The file mmsystem.dll is not listed in the [boot] section of system.ini. Multimedia services may be erratic" can this be the reason for me startup problem....

I could find no other information relating to an inability to select Normal Startup. If you have unselected any items on the startup tab to keep them from loading at boot, you will not want to use Normal Startup anyway. You can add the mmsystem entry to system.ini by entering drivers=mmsystem.dll in the [boot] section.

As it states on the microsoft site posted by Denny .
To use the Normal startup option, clear all of the check boxes under selective startup and then click apply >ok then restart your comp.
