HELP!!! Stuck on "Saving Personal Settings"
I just moved into a new house this past Friday. I plugged my computer in and tried to sign on, but was stuck with a message that reads "Saving Personal Settings"
After several hours on the phone with a Dell technician... the problem was still not resolved!
Help... I need my computer!

You get this message when logging off or shutting down, don't you?
Can you power down and restart? What happens?

I'm pretty sure it said "Saving"... but I'm not home right now to double check. The screen just stays like that. I let it sit for a couple of hours to see if it went away... but it didn't. It wouldn't even let me reboot. I had to hold the power button for a couple of seconds to power off.
The Dell technician said I may have to reinstall Windows XP... but he wasn't able to help me with that. He gave me another number to call, but I had already been on the phone for several hours... so I was a bit frustrated.
Thanks... I'll check there now...

I used to get it when logging off or shutting down, but it went away after a couple of seconds.
Now, I'm just trying to log on. I get to the main screen where it asks for my password. After hitting "enter", this message appears and won't go away.
The Dell technician I spoke to had me power off, go on "safe mode", everything he could think off... but nothing worked :(

Hi
I found directions on how to fix this here:
http://www.paulscomputerservice.net/index.php?body=./os/autoLogoff.php
I'll be trying this tonight (8/23/05) if you want I can report back on how well it worked.
