Help & Support Not Working

Hello,

I recently was going to go into Help & Support for whatever reason. After some searching, I discovered that it is no longer installed on my computer. How can I reinstall the Help & Support back on my computer?

Thanks.

Try customizing the start menu by right clicking on the Taskbar, pick properties, Start Menu, customize, Advanced, find in list and recheck it.

It's not that it's missing from the Start Menu, as I already have the shortcuts in there. I have searched the computer, and it's almost as if the program folder was somehow deleted. I need to re-install it, not just restore the shortcut. Is there a way to do this, or do I need to do a repair install of XP?

I tried that method. I had to make a new XP cd, following the instructions about slipstreaming, as mine was pre-service pack 2. When I try the install option on the pchealth.inf file, I am asked to locate the file dataspec.xml. When I enter in the location of the cd drive, it can't find the file. So I exited the install and ran a search of the cd, after which it said that it could not find a file named dataspec.xml. I did run the search with the options of searching hidden files, system folders, etc.

Is there anything else I could possibly do to get Help & Support working again?

Thanks

Eagle Scout,

Dataspec.xml is in three locations on my computer. I suspect that if it is available from any location it will be installed in the proper place by pchealth.inf. To make it available, expand it into a folder so that you can point the *.inf file to it. Put your slipstreamed CD into the drive then go to Start|Run, enter cmd and click OK. At the command prompt enter the following, substituting the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive for X and the path to the folder you wish to save the file to for Path:

expand X:\i386\dataspec.xm_ c:\Path\dataspec.xml

There is a space after xm_.

There are a number of suggestions for repair/reinstall at Kelly's Korner: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_h.htm

Scroll about halfway down the page.
