help with guest accounts.

I am running Windows XP Media Edition.  I use the default administrator account with guest accounts enabled.  How can I get access to things like msconfig when logged into guest accounts.  I would like to be able to change these settings as the administrator but can't seem to find where I can get access to those privledges.  Thanks.

I didn't find a direct answer to your question, but Guest accounts are restricted to certain functions and I suspect msconfig is one of the them.  You don't want a "guest" messing with the system configuration and potentially crashing the entire PC system.  The only one you really want to access that is the Administrator, or someone that has Administrator rights.

Having different access levels for different classes of users is the whole idea behind having the various account levels.  Otherwise it could be like the older Operating Systems, that once you are logged on you have access to everything.

Thanks fireberd, but I don't think you understand my question.  I am the administrator of the computer and I want to acess msconfig in the Guest account.  Is there a way to log on with administrator privledges so that I can "mess around" in the Guest account.  I thought as the administrator I would have full access to any and all user profiles.  Is there a way to enter the Guest account and type my administrator password so that I can play with the settings or is there a way that I can do this while in my Administrator account.  Thanks again.

Some programs allow "administrative privileges" by choosing "run as" .  I have tried this on my XP home for msconfig and it does not appear that it can be done for msconfig.  I did open Windows Task Manager (ctrl-shift-esc) and the running processes for the Guest account on my system appears to have the controlled setup I have set as Administrator.  I believe that the administrative account makes global changes for all users when you run msconfig as administrator.  In other words this would not be a user defined setting adjustable by all users.

Exactly what is it you wish to do with msconfig for the guest account?  If it is a program startup you could check the Start Menu-All programs-Startup folder to see if there is something there you want to delete from starting when logged as guest.

Another alternative may be to temporarily change the Guest account from Limited User to Administrator.  Then log into Guest, run msconfig and make the changes you want. Then restart the system and relog into Guest once to accept the changes.  Now log out and log back into your administrator account and reset the Guest account to Limited User.

PS the MS KB that covers running program as an administrator is  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305780

Disregard on my suggestion for changing the Guest account. It is either on or off.  In order for my alternative suggestion to work you will have to create your own Guest account.  To avoid a possible profile conflict, perhaps create the account named MyGuest or Visitor.  Then try setting and resetting the limited user account.
