HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a Precision 420 with Windows 2000 Professional Dell OEM and would like to upgrade to Windows XP Professional. Now I also have a Windows XP Professional Dell OEM disk from a previous but now broken Dell PC.
My question is this...
1. Can I install this disk on my current pc, thus overwriting Windows 2000
2. Will I need a activation key or will it recognise I have Dell OEM Windows 2000 already on.

1. Yes, but you'll be much better off performing a clean installation. To find the reinstall guide, downloads and other information for your system, hover your mouse cursor over the Product Support button (upper left of this page), and select Reinstall Guide (or Downloads or whatever). Then enter your service tag number and operating system, and you'll find all the information you need.
2. No activation is needed for Dell systems.

You should not be prompted for a Product ID during the installation. If you are, your Windows 2000 COA will not work.
