HELP

I am getting the same error message with a bunch of my programs.  It says that "whatever i am using" had experienced a problem and needs to shut down and that they are sorry for the inconvenience.  I am also gettign a Runtime error with my mailbox.  All this is on top of my comp not updating virus defintions automatically or when i downlaod them and not being able to scan my comp.  I also can't restore it because there are no dates on the restore calendar.  If you have any ideas at all please let me know.  I am at my wits end here.  Thanks.

Scan for viruses (download the current definitions), scan for spyware.

I can't scan for viruses, there is an error message that pops up and says that there is a problem and the scanner needs to close.
