helpctr.exe missing

When I try to use the "Windows Help" feature, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot find the file "helpctr.exe", and tells me to search for the file. I searched it out and tried to open it, but I got a message that says it has a ".pf" file extension, and I don't have the program it takes to open it. What is going on? I can't use the "system restore" function because I have no idea when the problem started. It could have been months ago.

that "pf" file is nothing, just a "prefetch" thing.. if you do not have the file, i don't know what could have happened to it.. you could try going to start/run and type "sfc /scannow" (to restore system files)

try searching for the file again to make sure that you do not have it, using win xp's search...

on my computer, it was located in "C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries"

it might be a hidden file and that is why you are not finding it..

you can adjust your folder view to show hidden files, and hidden system files, and you can adjust the preferences for "search" to find hidden files..
