How do I access Internet Explorer when using AOL

When I download programmes eg music downloads etc using AOL, the programme runs but tries to look for internet Explorer but cannot access / locate - Do I need to reset Internet or XP settings or is this beacause I am running AOL as my ISP

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but are you using dial-up or broadband? If Broadband (DSL or Cable), is AOL for Broadband your ISP?

No problem. I think AOL is a fine ISP for many users. Please check this. Sign on to AOL, then minimize the program and open Internet Explorer. Click Tools, Internet Options, click the Connections tab, under Dial-up and VPN Connections, you should see America Online listed (if you see something else or nothing, post back). Click the radio button below that box next to Always dial my default connection.

That should work.

I reccomend just using AOL if you use AOL, because that is all that will be left of your computer since your using it, either that or getting a new ISP.

That is correct I cannot open Internet Explorer at all or Windows Media Guide etc as they do not seem to recognise that I am already on line with AOL

Do you mean that you cannot open Internet Explorer at all? What do you mean when you say it won't open?

What version of AOL are you using? Do you have a little program called Port Magic running in your system tray? Try uninstalling that program and see if it helps. This will not impact your AOL functionality.

Longshot, but open Internet Explorer, click "File". See if "Work Offline" is checked.

If so, uncheck it.

I had AOL for over 2 years, and never had problems accessing IE. But I moved to Earthlink.

Log on via AOL, but then go to/use IE to browse the Internet. Then, when you download anything it will, by default use IE.
