How do I activate windows on a Dell laptop which came with pre installed genuine windows 8.
Hello there
I bought a dell laptop from singapore on 22 June 2015 with genuine windows 8.1 preinstalled.
now it is giving me a message saying that i have to activate windows and that my windows will expire on 4th november.
however when I do so....there is no activation happening automatically. They are asking the key which I dont have it.
i contacted singapore office and they asked me to scan using command prompt by giving the command as, sfc/scannow
it says there is no violation..but the activation message kept popping up.
and now they directed me to Bangladesh dealer as am using the laptop in dhaka.
could u please help me......it says my windows will expire on 4th november

It is possible you have a pirated copy of Windows. Computers with a factory installed legal copy of Windows do not need to be activated. The activation code for Windows 8 is located in the system BIOS and is read automatically. You can check the code by using one of the utilities that will extract it from the BIOS. If there is a code, contact Microsoft and ask them if the code is valid.
