How do I change the default program that opens pictures?

How do I change the default program which opens pictures? For example, in the past I would open JPG's & they would come up to view in the paint program, which of course sometimes blows pics up so large that you can't see the whole thing. Now it's opening pics in Microsoft Word, which doesn't always go too well. Other times it's opened my pics in some other program I happened to have installed.
I just wanna know the easy way to default my image viewer back to whichever one  I want after the occasional ghost gets into my PC & changes it for me.
Oh yeah, I'm running a Dimension 4550 with Windows XP

Go to the folder your pictures are stored in. Maybe my pictures? Right click on a picture and select open with. Choose the program you want to use and select always open with this program when you see that option. Or you can select start, programs, and set program access and defaults. You can also use folder options in control panel and advanced I thing to select the program to use for .jpg
