How do I find Windows Temp Files?

Question

I am using Dimension 4600 desktop w/Windows XP home edition. I read online that you can open C drive, go to Documents and Settings, folder w/user name, then Local Settings. The trouble is I don't see a folder called Local Settings. Where is it?   I had also tried using Run, then %temp%. This brought up many temp files. When I go in thru the Windows files and look at Temp, there are only a few files. Are they stored in different places?  What is the correct way to find and clean out Windows temp files in XP?

Hey thanks. I see the Local Settings now. I still wonder why there are Windows temp files in 2 places. You can see some if you go into the Windows folder and most of them in the Local Settings. I assume it's ok to delete all of them after they've been in there for more than a week? Should I just use the Run box w/the %temp% command?

Best ( and least risky way ) is to use the Disc Cleanup in Accessories . . System Tools. wrs

You need to go into folder options and enable 'show hidden files and folders.'

Thanks for your reply. I use the Disk Cleanup, but it doesn't seem to find the Windows Temp Files. I had Windows ME on my old computer & I was able to easily find & delete the Windows temp files. Need advise about how to do this w/XP.

You can d/l batch cleanup #1 from Fred Langa's site:   http://www.langa.com/cleanup_bat.htm   Read the warnings and select what you want deleted. There are also more aggressive batch cleanup files there as well (#2, #3, etc.)
