how long for automatic updates?
I've seen this question before, but couldn't find an answer when I used the search in these Forums.
I have Automatic Updates set to notify me when updates are downloaded and ready to install. I know this was a busy month for the updates. I have not been notified (on two different machines) of the updates being ready to install. Neither computer has been on for more than 24 hours total since the updates were released. We are on broadband, so the actual update time should be under twenty minutes....
Since there were so many updates, are they staggering when they send out the updates? Should I just be more patient?

I keep my system current, and I downloaded the updates on my notebook the day they were released while I was at work. When we got home that night, we tried to apply the updates on my wife's PC, and the Windows Update site was over-loaded to the point that it took 3-5 minutes just to get the screen to show what she needed to download and install. When she tried to download and apply the updates, it would time-out on her and fail (and did so for several attempts for that day and the next). I took the list of updates from her PC and manually downloaded each of them from the MS download site and let he manually apply them. After doing that, she went back to windows update and it saw that she no longer needed to apply those updates.
The day after the upates were released, my ISP/domain host/web host notified me that they would be applying the updates to their servers and that there would be server re-boots after they were applied, so there would be temporary outtages. I'm guessing that a number of people were just slamming the site to get the updates and it couldn't handle the traffic volume very well.

Sheesh.... on one machine, the updates came through Sunday night, but the second machine did not update until yesterday (over a week after the updates were released...).
I know I can manually do it, but was just checking that the auto updates actually worked.... They do, but that time lag is a bit large, so I'll go back to manually doing them....
