Open Task Manager (press ctrl-alt-del) while on line. Click Networking tab and look under link speed.

No, that speed is your LAN speed. It's the connection between your computer and the router (or broadband modem).

If you want to measure your broadband speed, go to the link given by joe53. Pick one of the speed test sites. The result should look something like the following (I'm on DSL):

Your download speed : 1311156 bps, or 1280 kbps.
A 160 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 239463 bps, or 233 kbps.

Except we don't know if he's using a LAN, broadband or dialup. Task Manager will show the current speed and it will change with every connection for dialup.

You can also install something on your PC like dumeter ($20) which will show your up/download speeds continuously from an icon on the taskbar. It can also put small graph anywhere on screen showing up/download data flow over your connection. It's very useful to see when things are up/downloading, especially when you don't expect any transfers, and be able to stop unwanted attempts to up/download stuff. Been using dumeter since Win95, and no, I don't work for them.

That's correct RoHe but PABSEE mentioned "internet connection speed" and "cable" so I assume he has cable broadband. Task manager actually only shows the connection between two points, not the actual speed (down/up). Btw, I tried dumeter on my LAN. It's a good software to measure the transfer speed between machines in my LAN. I'm quite surprised to see 8MB/sec (down) and 5MB/sec (up) on my 100MB/sec switched network :-(
