How to connect Epson LX-300 to Dimension E521

Can any one tell me how to connect my old Epson LX-300 printer with old pin type (not USB) to my newly purchased Dimension E521?

Is there any type of convertor, which converts from this pin to USB type pin?

Google for "usb to parallel adapter". You could also buy a parallel adapter card but the adapter cable seems to to the job for most people.

Thank you very much both of you for this information.

Before you buy anything additonal, verify that the old technology printer is compatible with Vista.  You will need Vista specific drivers, as drivers for older operating systems will not work.  If Epson does not have Vista drivers then forget it and start looking for a new Vista compatible printer.

There have been a couple of posts that suggest that if Epson doesn't have Vista drivers for your printer, you are out of luck.

This may or may not be the case. While Epson may not have Vista drivers, Vista itself has many many drivers for older printers (and many other peripherals). For example, HP does not have Vista drivers for either of my printers (LaserJet 6P & DeskJet 970 Cse), but in both cases Vista has drivers and both printers are working just fine.

You could certainly look for a newer printer, but for the cost of one of the adapter cables, I'd be tempted to try this route first.

In the cases I've seen, if the vendor does not have drivers but there are drivers built into Vista they will state that.  e.g. HP even gives instructions on how to install using the built in drivers.

Friends,

I could reconfirm from epson site, vista includes drivers for this model i.e. LX-300. The following link gives the answer

I'm only worried about using the cable converter i.e. from say 24-pin type to usb, data will be transferring correctly, right?

Well there is no "guarantee" that it will work, but from my experience and from comments from others, the adapter cable works perfectly in most cases. With my printer, I simply attached one end of the cable to the printer, plugged the USB end into the computer and powered up the printer. Vista detected new hardware and proceeded to install the drivers. Within a minute, my old HP 6P was up and printing. A CD with drivers for the cable was included in the package, but I did NOT install them. Vista recognized everything.

In any event, unless you want to invest in a new printer, you will either have to spend a few dollars on the cable or buy a parallel adapter card and install it in your computer.
