How to create desktop icon "Device Manager"??

I have a second hard drive installed that I only use occasionally for backup and photo management.  When not in use I disable it in the device manager.  This necessitates going into my "Windows Administrator" users account, right click  "my computer"........."hardware" ........"device manager".

I did a search in the XP search function for a program or file "device manager" and came up empty.  Is there a way I can put a device manager icon on the desltop and bypass all the usual steps?

Flooby,

That is what I was looking for.  Thanks so much.  I thought a "device manager" search  might turn up where I would find the command, not so.

Right click on a blank part of the desktop and select New - Shortcut.  Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\devmgmt (left click once on devmgmt to highlight/select same) and click OK.  You should see C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc in the Location view of the Create Shortcut utility.  Click Next in the Create Shortcut app, and type in a name for this shortcut, like "Device Manager" then click Finish, and you should now have a shortcut to Device Manager on the desktop.

Another quick way to access System Properties and Device Mgr. is to use the shortcut keys: Windows key + Pause Break key.

Hi Mary - this is genious and something I really was looking for!

I learned some time ago that Win key + D closes all open windows and lets you see your desktop (which is useful if you have shortcuts placed here), but this one is new to me. Is there anywhere a published list of "Win key + .... " keyboard combinations?

 Many thanks, helpyourself!

And sorry I was wrong talking about Win key + D: that does not close the windows, just minimises them. They still are accessible in the taskbar.
