I cannot find the OS Recovery Feature on my Inspiron 1720 running vista home premium? Anyone can tell me how to use this feature?

Systems shipped after July 15, 2004 came with Symantec PC Restore. This utility restores the computer to an "as-shipped" condition. If you haven't reformatted, repartitioned, or otherwise modified the master boot record, it should work.

If the Symantec PC Restore utility won't work, but still resides on your computer, a Dell customer has figured out some ways to get it to work again. Note - If you removed this partition, it is not recoverable, cannot be downloaded from the internet, and cannot be shipped from Dell. Click here for ways to fix Symantec PC Restore. Users have also reported that the partition can be restored with Ghost 2003, and Ghost 9 using the '03 capabilities of it. If you boot to the Ghost 9 CD, select Advanced Recovery Taks, select Utilities, then Restore Legacy Image it should work - but you want to verify the image before attempting the restore. It's in a folder called IMG.

I mean I've got an Inspiron and I removed Media Direct Software on that. So what will I do now to make Media Direct do as it intended. Reinstall Media Direct Software or do like the documention says.

If you intend to use the Media Direct application as it was intended (without runing the OS) MD must be installed before the OS.

thank you very much.

I removed Media Direct Software but still kept MediaDirect Partition on my Inspiron, whether I must go through "Prepare the Hard Drive for Reinstallation of MediaDirect" step as said in this support documentation (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?journalid=460655B67E5F9BAAE040A68F27281C56&docid=3082DAC1D7384CD5E040A68F5B2814A2) or only reinstall Media Direct Software?

if you haven't touched or altered the mediadirect partition then just reinstall media direct from the cd as your hdd has already been prepared.

if you used the 3.3 version software cd then open mediadirect in windows and click on the update button in the program. you should get an update that's about 68MB from cyberlink.
