how to delete desktop icons?

I have (3) desktop icons that I cannot delete by right click delete or dragging into the recycle bin. The icons are MSN Explorer, Dell Jukebox by musicmatch and Learn XP.

How can I delete these icons? Shift key delete does not work.

Error msg sez: Cannot delete MSN Explorer: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

Same msg. for all 3 icons. When I click on the General Tab I get a msg box. It sez: Problem with shortcut. The folder c:\program files\MSN\MSNCorefiles specified in the start box is not valid. Make sure that the folder exists and the path is correct.

The folder does not exist. I have uninstalled MSN software.

Barrysvt18 . . .

i  presume  you  have  win-xp  operating  system . . .
settings / control_panel / display / properties / desktop / customize_desktop / general / desktop_cleanup

the  only  icons  on  my  desktop  are  my_computer  and  recycle_bin . . .
this  is  easier  on  the  memory / processor . . .
likewise  i  do  not  use  quick_launch . . .
and  keep  minimal  amounts  of  icons  in  system_tray.

and . . . in  the  future . . . you  might  offer  a  bit  more  information  regarding  your  operating  system.   :-)

Thanks for your suggestion, however it does not work. The error msg appears "Cannot delete MSN Explorer: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."
