How to disable messenger popups when browser loads?

My daughter is running Windows XP Professional and gets these annoying dialog popups when she opens her IE browser.  I know that the messenger program is available for ISP system administrators to write notes to their network users.  These are propably coming from her vdsl provider and go out automatically to those that have this enabled.  On one the Screen Savers shows, they showed how to do this and it was pretty simple.  I know it can also be disable in the Registry but don't like using that.  I know there it can be shut off in the settings somewhere.  BTW, she is set up as the administrator on her computer.

You help would be appreciated!

Rudy

Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools, click on Services.   Scroll down to Messenger, double click it, disable it.  Kip
