yeah they include a lot of software that isn't needed and just takes up space. so the driver for the video card would be on a backup cd too right?

All of the software that comes with the new machine will be included on disks that will ship with it.  The same goes for all the drivers you'll need.  I actually prefer doing what you are going to do because you end up getting rid of a lot of software that you would normally never use anyways.  I also had the wierdest little quirks that went away after I wiped everything out.  Good luck with your new machine!

Yes, although you will probably be able to download a newer version of the driver for your graphics adapter from the manufacturer's Web site.

You can find instructions for reinstalling the necessary drivers for your system from the supplied CDs here.
